The Masai hippopotamus (Hippopotamus amphibius) is a species of hippo found in Eastern Africa. They have barrel-shaped bodies, short legs, huge mouths, short tails, small ears on top of their heads, eyes on top of their heads, upturned nostrils, and big 1 inch long canine teeth used to fight for females.
Diet[]
Masai hippos eat mostly grass. On occasion, they will eat dead zebras, dead wildebeests, dead gazelles, other dead hippos, and even dead elephants.
Lifespan[]
Masai hippos can live up to 60 years in the wild. Up to 70 years in captivity.
Size[]
Masai hippos can stand up to 5 ft tall, and males can weigh up to 10,000 lbs. females can weigh up to 6,000 lbs.
Predators[]
Lions, hyenas, and crocodiles will eat masai hippos. Usually, these are only calves, as adults are very dangerous.
