Cows or cattle (Bos taurus) are raised in many different countries around the world (Except Antarctica), mainly for the cows natural resources such as milk, meat and leather. In India, the cow is seen as a sacred animal. There are thought to be nearly 1.5 million cows worldwide, most of the cows are sadly kept by farmers but there is sure to be the odd rouge escaped wild cows somewhere.

The diet of cows are herbivores.

Lifespan[]

The natural lifespan of domestic cattle is some 25 - 30 years. Beef cattle go to slaughter at around 18 months, and dairy cows at about five years.

Reproduction[]

Mating may occur year round, though more calves are born in spring months. One calf is born approximately nine months of gestation. Young Bos taurus are preocial, they learn to recognize their mother and are able to stand and walk soon after birth. Young domestic cows nurse for approximately six months.
