Pandas are animals with wide faces, long tails (much longer and protruding in the red panda), long legs with big paws with 5 toes and a pseudo-thumb on the front paws, short snouts, large rounded-triangle-shaped ears, sharp canine teeth used to slice bamboo into smaller pieces, and unique coloring. There are 2 species of red panda:Chinese red pandas, and Himalayan red pandas. Please Note: giant pandas are unrelated to the red panda and unlike them they're not raccoons but instead are bears despite having the same name because in 1985 molecular studies indicated that the giant panda is a true bear, part of the family Ursidae.
