Hippopotamuses are large heavy animals (only elephants are bigger) that live in Africa. They have barrel-shaped bodies, short legs, large heads, large mouths, short, stumpy tails, and eyes, ears and nostrils on top of their heads. They can run fast and be extremely dangerous, especially when they feel threatened. There are two species: The river hippopotamus, and the pygmy hippopotamus.
