Alligators are large crocodilians that are told apart from crocodiles by their wide round u-shaped snouts, and that alligators' teeth hang over their lower jaws. Unlike crocodiles, they cannot gallop. This is theorized because galloping helps comparatively smaller crocs get a quicker getaway from danger. But alligators and caimans just stand their ground instead of running away. They include the American Alligator, the Chinese alligator, and caimans.
